A social programme was prepared for participants and accompanying persons. Tickets will be assigned on first-come first-served basis.

24th October


Dinner - "O Trovador" restaurant (optional dinner)

After the welcome drinks, participants can have dinner at "O Trovador” restaurant  right in the heart of the medieval town, next to the old cathedral and to the historical university campus (the oldest university in the Portuguese speaking world and one of the oldest on earth, founded in 1290, March 1, by King D. Dinis).
It is a must for all Portuguese and foreign visitors who appreciate the excellence of Portuguese cuisine and the sound of Portuguese guitars and the voices of prestigious musicians of Coimbra Fado.

Dinner is not included in the registration fees and participants must registered in advance.


25th October


Medieval Conference Dinner

In the end of the first day of the Geoconference, Tuesday 25 October, participants will enjoy a "medieval” style meal with music, dances and fire juggling.



26th October


Dinner - "Loggia" restaurant (Machado de Castro National Museum (optional dinner)

On the last day of the congress, on Wednesday 26 October, participants can have dinner at "Loggia” restaurant, the restaurant of the Museum Machado de Castro.

The restaurant offers a fabulous magnificent view over the old medieval town. This dinner is not included in the registration fees and participants must register in advance.



27th October


Dinner Cruise on the river Mondego

The 2016 FIG Commission Annual Meeting can’t end without a dinner for all participants. This dinner will be on Thursday 27 October on aboard of "Basófias”, on Coimbra’s river Mondego.
Beautiful panorama of Coimbra riverfront: A UNESCO World Heritage site, floating by bridges, parks and churches, 13th century university and contemporary buildings on board of  "O Basófias” boat, while having dinner. A real treat!

As a tribute to the river Mondego, the boat "O Basófias” is named after the river’s nickname given by locals.

Technical Visit to Douro Valley

Includes visit & lunch at Quinta do Seixo in Douro Valley and a visit to Caves Ferreira (Porto wine cellars) in Porto.

Quinta do Seixo (vineyard estate)
DOURO – an UNESCO site – is the oldest Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) vinyard region in the wine growing history of the world. Currently more than 250 years old, it is located in the north-east of Portugal’s mainland along the river Douro valley.

Caves Ferreira (Ferreira Cellars)

Established in 1751 by a family of winemakers from the Douro, Ferreira possesses a rich tradition and a prominent role in the history of Porto wine. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira contributed significantly to the consolidation of the brand.
