Accompanying persons

The accompanying persons programm has four guided walking tours. These tours will include visits to two areas of Coimbra classified World Heritages by UNESCO: University of Coimbra and the uppertown ("Alta") and Sofia street, located downtown (http://worldheritage.uc.pt/en/). Eventual entrance tickets in some sites are not included.
Accompanying persons registered by "Special Package" have not only access to the three guided tours but also to the medieval dinner, to the dinner cruise on the river Mondego and to the tour to the University, this one included in the Geoconference programme (Wednesday, 26 October, in the afternoon).
Other accompanying persons can also participate in the three tours and have the two dinners above, thought extra fee apply (see page "Registration and fees”).
All accompanying persons can also have dinners at restaurants "O Trovador" and "Loggia" (see extra fee  in "registration and fees”).

Visit to "Portugal dos Pequenitos" and "Santa Clara-a-Velha"
Monastery

Portugal dos Pequenitos
The park consists of diminutive versions of Portuguese houses and monuments, and has pavilions dedicated to the former Portuguese colonies. It was founded in 1940, and it is the work of architect Cassiano Branco.
The ruins of Santa Clara-a-Velha Monastery are located in the southbank. The monastery was built in the 14th century but had to be abandoned in the 17th century due to frequent floods. The well-preserved Gothic ruins of the monastery were excavated in the late 20th century, more than 300 years after being abandoned by the nuns.

Medieval Conference Dinner

Ending the first Geoconference day, Tuesday 25 October, participants will enjoy a medieval style meal with music, dances and fire juggling.

Dinner Cruise on the river Mondego

The 2016 FIG Commission Annual Meeting can’t end without a dinner for all participants. This dinner will be on Thursday 27 October aboard the boat "O Basófias”, on Coimbra’s river Mondego.
Beautiful panorama of Coimbra riverfront:A UNESCO World Heritage site, floating by bridges, parks and churches, 13th century university and contemporary buildings on board of "O Basófias” boat, while having dinner. A real treat!

As a tribute to the river Mondego, the boat "O Basófias” is named after the river’s nickname given by locals.
